Spring is Coming!

Spring is coming,

Spring is coming,

How do you think I know?

I saw the green grass growing,

I know it must be so!

Spring is coming,

Spring is coming,

How do you think I know?

I heard a robin singing,

I know it must be so!

Animal Fair

I went to the animal fair,

The birds and the beasts were there,

The big baboon by the light of the moon,

Was combing his auburn hair.

The monkey smelled a skunk,

And fell on the elephant's trunk,

The elephant sneezed,

And fell on his knees,

And he's lucky he missed the monk.

100 Animals

I went to the zoo
And what did I see?
100 animals
Looking at me.
There were,
10 tall giraffes, eating from the trees.
10 silly monkeys, scratching on their knees.
10 sleeping snakes, lying in the sun.
10 munching elephants, eating peanuts one by one.
10 leaping tigers, performing in the shows,
10 pink flamingos, standing on their toes.
10 grouchy bears, trying to get some sleep.
10 happy hippos, in the water deep.
10 roaring lions, walking two by two.
10 galloping zebras, all living in the zoo

Five Little Hummingbirds

Five hummingbirds flying in the air,
(Hold up five fingers)

The first one landed in my hair,
(Grab little finger)

The second and third were a pair,
(Touch index finger and thumb together)

The fourth hummingbird didn't care,
(grab ring finger)

The fifth hummingbird hummed everywhere,
(Touch middle finger and hum loudly)

Ostrich

Here is the ostrich straight and tall,
(raise one arm for ostrich)

Nodding his head above us all,
(use your raised wrist to 'nod' like an ostrich head)

Here is the hedgehog prickly and small,
(hold hands together with fingers together)

Rolling himself into a ball,
(cup both hands into a ball)

Here is the spider scuttling around
(wriggle fingers like a spider)

Treading so lightly on the ground,
(let fingers crawl on arm or leg)

Here are the birds that fly so high,
(interlock both thumbs while rest of fingers spread out like a bird)

Spreading their wings across the sky,

Here are the children fast asleep,
(pretend to be asleep)

And in the night the owls do peep,
(ring eyes with fingers for owl eyes)

Little Birds Fly

Up, up in the sky, the little birds fly
(fingers flying like birds)

Down, down in the nest, the little birds rest.
(hands form nest)

With a wing on the left, and a wing on the right
(hands on each hip)

Let the little birds rest all night.
(head to one side, like tucking under wing)

"shhhhh!! You might wake up the birdies!"
(yell)

The bright sun comes up, the dew falls away,

good morning, good morning the little birds say.

Woodpecker

The woodpecker pecked out a little round hole,
(tap left palm with right pointer)

And made him a house in the telephone pole,

One day as I watched he poked out his head,
(poke out head)

He had on a hood and a collar of red.
(point to head and neck)

When the streams of rain pour out of the sky,

And the flashes of lightening go streaking by,

And the big, big wheels of thunder roll,
(roll arms)

He can snuggle back in his telephone pole.

Home Sweet Home

A nest is a home for a robin,
(cup hands to form a nest)

A hive is a home for a bee,
(turn cupped hands over)

A hole is a home for a rabbit,
(make a hole with hands)

And a house is a home for me,
(make roof with peaked hands)

Spring Song

To the tune of: Sing a Song of Sixpence

Pink and yellow flowers,

are nodding pretty heads,

Bees are buzzing nicely

around garden beds

Trees are filled with blossoms

the robins are starting to sing

And surely this will let us know

The season must be spring!

Climbing up the Apple Tree

Climbing up the apple tree,
(climb in place)

Swinging on a limb!
(Raise arms above head, sway left and right)

If I hear a robin, I may...
(cup hand near ear)

Sing along with him!
(sing tra la la)

"And Robin, if you fly away,
(Put hands over eyes)

Here's what I think I'll do
(Point up with index finger)

I'll wish a pair of sparrow wings
(gently flap arms at side and move around)

And fly away with you!

And here is a hole for a bunny

Five Little Birds

(count on fingers as rhyme indicates)

Five little blue birds, hopping by my door
One went to build a nest, and then there were four

Four little blue birds singing lustily
One got out of tune, and then there were three

Three little blue birds, and what should one do,
But go in search of dinner, leaving only two.

Two little blue birds singing for fun
One flew away, and then there was one.

One little blue bird sitting in the sun
He took a little nap, and then there was none.

Oak Tree

Here is an oak tree, straight and tall
(stand up straight)

And here are its branches wide
(stick out arms and extend fingers)

Here is a nest of twigs and moss
(cup hands)

With three little birds inside
(hold up three fingers)

If I were a Bird

If I were a Bird, I'd sing a song

And fly about the whole day long
(cross thumbs and flap hands like wings)

And when the night comes, go to rest,

Way up high in my cozy nest.
(cup hands together to form nest)

10 Fat Turkeys

10 fat turkeys standing in a row
(hold up ten fingers)

They spread their feathers and tails like so
(spread fingers)

They strut to the left

They strut to the right
(move fingers left and right)

They say Gobble, gobble, gobble

in the bright sunlight

Way Up in the Sky

Way up in the sky
(hands thrown up)

The little birds fly
(flap arms like wings)

While down in the nest
('nest' in crook of elbow - point)

The little birds rest
(rest head on hands - 'sleeping')

With a wing on the left
('flap' left arm then bring it behind)

And a wing on the right
(same on right)

The little birds sleep
All through the night
(same sleeping action)

Shhh!
(whispered)

They're SLEEPING!
(shout!)

The bright sun comes up
(throw hands up)

The dew falls away
(wiggle fingers like rain)

Good morning! Good morning!
(throw hands up at each Good
morning')

the little birds say.

Wise Old Owl

A wise old owl sat in an oak,

The more he heard, the less he spoke;

The less he spoke, the more he heard;

Why aren't we all like that wise old bird?

Homes

This is a nest for Mr. Bluebird
(cup both hands)

This is a hive for Mrs. Bee
(fists together)

This is a hole for bunny rabbit
(fingers make hole)

And this is a house for me
(finger tips together for a house with roof peak)

Sing a Song of Six Pence

Sing a song of sixpence,
(make circle with hands)

A pocket full of rye;

Four and twenty blackbirds

All baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened,
(open hands)

The birds began to sing;
(flutter fingers)

Wasn't that a dainty dish

To set before the King?

The King was in his counting-house,
(cup hand)

Counting out his money;
(pretend to pick up money)

The Queen was in the parlor

Eating bread and honey.
(make eating motions)

The maid was in the garden
Hanging out the clothes;
(extend arms)

When down came a blackbird,
(flutter down one hand)

And snipped off her nose!
(nip nose)
